The turn up season is finally here. However, this is also a time when some people take advantage of girls who just want to have fun. Here are five things you can do to stay safe at your next party.
Tell your friend where you’re going Tell your friend where you’re going, like the toilet, getting drinks, moving to another room or hanging out with a different crew. When people know where you are and how long it should take you to be back, they will have your back covered.
Make sure your phone is fully charged and keep it on you at all times This will come in handy in an emergency. You’ll be able contact an adult or friend for help. You can also call 112 if you’re in danger. It’s a free emergency helpline that’s available on all cellphone networks.
Don’t leave your drink unattended Keep your drink close to you and open your own drinks. It only takes a few seconds for someone to spike a drink with a date rape drug to make you blackout.
Don’t leave with a stranger It’s great to meet new people to start an after-party with, but you’re not too streetwise to remember that you should never go anywhere with a stranger no matter how cool they are.
Be aware of your surroundings When walking, try not to do it alone. Walk with a friend and in well-lit areas. Stay away from abandoned areas with no people, like an open veld or quiet streets. If you think you are in danger, call a friend while walking to the nearest shop.
